Maintain February achievements and improve my habits.
Sunday 5th March 2023

Welcome back to my blog! Can’t believe it’s already March and I’m back with another goal setting segment for the month. For those of you that are new here or simply require a refresh, we’re all about growth and becoming our most authentic self in healthy ways over here. So if you are on or thinking of starting your well-being journey then be sure to stick around.
At the beginning of each month I set goals to support my journey. This way I’m ensuring I achieve what I want whilst not overdoing it. Whilst I will be maintaining last months goals (check out my February goals post for more details) months priorities are all about health.
Now health is a massive part of our lives and when you say health is a priority it can mean so many different things, so I like to split it up into three main categories: mind, body and soul. I am therefore going to focus on one category per month with March focusing on mind – prioritising mental health through journaling, improved time use and positive social media.

I for one have been journaling on and off since I was about 15, however I have been regular in my journaling for the past year and a half and I have to say it has been wonderful. I have found that journaling helps me to put all my thoughts down and understand deeply how I’m feeling, what I’m thinking and what I truly want rather than having all of the thoughts scrambled in my mind. It is an amazing way to sort through your emotions thoughts and fears and understand yourself better- almost like your own therapy session.
This being said since I started my full time job my journaling falls off and on every now and then. So I am making a promise to myself to maintain journaling in a realistic way rather than trying to journal everyday.
I have found that in the days I work in London (Monday-Wednesday) I find it best to journal for 5 minutes in the evening. The days I work from home (usually Thursdays and Friday) to journal 5 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening. Then on the weekends to journal 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening.
This seems to be a much more realistic way for me to stay journaling without overdoing it. However, I insist that you find what works for you by trying different variations.

The other way for me to prioritise my mental health is through positive social media. I find there is often a narrative that social media is the worst thing for your mental health however through recent revelations I have found that social media can have an extremely positive influence if you use it in a way that suits you. For me this consists of deleting TikTok as I found I pointlessly scroll through it for hours, and it can often reduce my mental health. There have been times where I have deleted the app and found my mental health improve greatly, but I then download it again to fill my time. So I will be removing tik tok and reducing the amount I use Instagram.
This is not to say that all social media is bad, in fact I find Pinterest and YouTube (depending on which side you are on) to be amazing for my mental health. So I will be replacing negative media with positive. In particular, I have found many YouTubers – Hailey Gamba, Tam Kaur and Elicia Goguen – to be positively influential on my growth and development journey. I also often use YouTube for meditation and motivational content.
Another great form of positive social media is podcasts! I tend to you Spotify for this on my long commutes to and from London and have to say they make for a much more positive morning.

Following on from removing negative social media, this will open up a lot of time where I can do things that are beneficial for me. Whether it be self-care, some solo time, spending time with loved ones or creating new memories I will be able to use my time more positively.
Therefore, in the month of March I plan on replacing my negative media, with positive forms and also using that time to spend with loved ones, doing self-care or any other beneficial activity instead of wasting away hours.
