Solo Date and Review of cafe in London

Sunday 16th April 2023

Hello and welcome back to my blog. Today I’m talking all about my solo-date lunch break in London, as well as a review of Soho coffee café chain. Hope you enjoy, and if you would like to hear more about my solo date journey check out my podcast linked at the end of this post where my episode out on 12th April where I talk all about it.

The Idea

Recently I have been struggling with enjoying the little moments. My mental health has not been the best for a few reasons – the weather/ cold, work, feeling stuck, relationships. However, now that it is March I feel a new wave beginning, it is Spring after all. Due to this I have been trying to do more solo-date and just spending more time with myself. Although it’s not easy to always find the time, it doesn’t have to be the whole day. In fact I now often spend my lunch breaks in London on a solo-date whether that’s doing some shopping, going for a walk or actually getting lunch. This week I went to SOHO Coffee Co near Moorgate/ Barbican.

The Solo-Date

Firstly I started with not listening to any music, this way I was completely in the moment and with myself. I went on a little walk around for about 10-15 minutes because luckily it wasn’t raining or overly cold like it has been the past couple months. Here I didn’t exactly have a specific destination, I just waltz around and really paid attention to my surroundings in order to truly appreciate what was around me instead of allowing myself to be distracted by music or anything else. I ended up walking past a coffee shop, one that I had walked past a few times and always been enticed by, but never been in either because either I had already eaten or it was time to get back to work. But this day, I had the time and was hungry so I went it.

Entering the café, it was very aesthetic. It is a chain so there are many around London but the one I went to was close to Moorgate Station. The menu offered a few jacket pirate variations, flatbreads with egg and other options as well as sandwiches. In addition, coffee and teas were available and smoothies. I chose a strawberry and banana smoothie and a breakfast brunch which consisted of a flatbread with melted cheese, fried egg, crispy bacon and spring onions on top. The food and smoothie was very delicious and I am likely to go again. I ensured that I was not on my phone, in fact I didn’t even watching Netflix/ YouTube or consume any form of media which really helped me enjoy the food/ drink and the whole hour. However, ensure that you give yourself a good a month of time as it can take up to 20 minutes for your food to be ready.

Conclusion

All in all it was a lovely brunch cafe. In addition I will certainly be taking myself out for more lunch solo dates as I found that often that one hour is all I needed – rather than dedicated a whole day to fill. Additionally, not listening to music or any form of media really helped me enjoy what I was eating/ doing and appreciate it more.
